There is a difference between making adjustments for someone you love and completely losing yourself to keep a relationship alive.

Relationships require compromise. They require patience, understanding and sometimes putting another person's needs ahead of yours. But compromise should not require you to disappear.

You should not have to become quieter because your partner is uncomfortable with your confidence.

You should not have to abandon your dreams because you got married.

You should not have to stop growing because someone prefers the version of you that needed them for everything.

Love should give you room to grow

A healthy relationship should have room for two people to become better versions of themselves. That means you can have your own interests, friendships, ambitions, opinions and goals.

You can love your partner deeply and still want to develop your career.

You can be a mother and still have dreams.

You can be married and still learn new skills.

You can be committed to your family and still care about becoming financially capable.

Being in a relationship doesn't cancel your individuality.

But what if growth creates tension?

Sometimes the people around us become comfortable with the version of us they know. When you start changing, they may ask:

“Why are you suddenly doing this?”

“Who are you trying to impress?”

“Why do you need to make money?”

“Why do you want to learn another skill?”

Not every question means someone is trying to hold you back. Sometimes people simply need time to adjust. But if you are consistently being pressured to abandon healthy growth simply to keep someone comfortable, that's worth examining.

You can love someone without losing yourself

Your relationship should be part of your life, not the entirety of your identity.

Keep learning.

Keep dreaming.

Keep developing.

Keep becoming.

The goal isn't to become independent because you don't need anyone.

It's to become capable while still being able to love, receive support and build with someone.

You were not created to become smaller so someone else can feel bigger.

Love better. But don't disappear in the process.

If this hit a little too close to home, there's more here on Mbthrive website that would intrest you.
